Have you ever thought of quitting your job and fulfilling your dreams of traveling?
Many of us have that thought but what is stopping us? It was a food for thought after having a chat with a friend who was deciding whether to stay other year in her job before going to pursue her dream of work and travel. Is it worth it to stay another year when the bonus is about 7K but is it worth stay just for another year as work unhappily?
There are many factors to consider before taking the impulse jump to quit. Yes we may still young, this is the best time we should to travel as much as possible and still being adaptable to new jobs. We should live our dreams and chase our passion. That’s what we wish to do, i admire her bravery to do so and live out her dreams. There are other areas i will consider and think about the before making my move.
Do i like my current job?
My current job gives me the flexibility of time and resources for me to grow in the areas that i want to develop myself. I set for myself a timeline of 5 years to go back to school and set up a structure for my team to see them through towards national top 4. I will leave and pursue my dreams of traveling after that. During the course of 5 years, it will give me enough time to build up on my finances for me to travel, it also the skills and resource that i need to have in embarking on my next job after my travel. Or i may want to further my studies and travel at the same time.
Financial Aspect
Traveling will require a some of money depending on the country, working and traveling will be the best option. This requires proper planning so that job are found before going for this travel adventure. It will be good to set aside a sum of money for emergency, also for future in other commitment like settling down to have a family or being jobless for a period of time after travel. Thus, preparation for this period is crucial if i want to study while travel to cover my school fees and traveling cost.
Self Developmental
My friend post me a question of after chasing your mount everest dream what will be your next. Hmm.. i couldn’t get her an immediate answer. Yesterday i just started with my first windsurfing course, since i’ve chosen this new sports lets see how far i can go in this area. So if i’m going along this line, i wouldn’t mind going overseas to study, work and also to windsurf to gain more experience. Killing three birds with one stone. That after i return i can still use the benefits from getting another certification to move forward in my career and gain new heights in my new sports.
Thankfully i’m still single now, this give me the freedom to travel and be accountable to my parents who recently also caught the travel bug. It will be harder unless my boyfriend shares the same values and ideology. If i have my own family and kids, it will be a different type of traveling. It all boils down to the type of traveling, young and single will go for backpacking with the freedom of meeting new people. Couple will go for honeymoon to enjoy the time of travel sharing with each other, family will be to look out more for the kids taking care of their needs. Freedom level drops as the commitment level increases.
Meanwhile, save money and work towards my current goals.
